Graphic card advice

PanoTools NG mailing list
I'm looking at an NVIDIA GeoForce GT630LP card, (LP since I have a low
profile case) to speed up stitching. Is anyone using this card successfully
with PTGui? I notice that it "only" supports OpenGL 4.1 as opposed to other
cards that supports 4.2. Is that an issue? Here is a comparison link with
other NVIDIA cards:

Hi Erik,

Thanks for fixing that. I had put <> at either end of the link thinking,
apparently incorrectly, that it would keep the link from breaking. Was I
thinking of the right thing, but the wrong implementation?

Mark

Some mail clients do and some don't. In this case even yahoo might have
done it.

However, I guess you know http://www.ptgui.com/support.html#7_2

BTW.: PTGui uses OpenCL not OpenGL. Hence the OpenGL version sould be
meaningless. Make sure to update the drivers after install. My Nvidia
didn't work with version 339 but does with 344.

Re: Graphic card advice

Good catch on OpenGL vs. OpenCL! I had checked out the PTGui support article
you linked to which is what drew me to this particular card. Did you notice
a significant increase in stitching speeds?

Thanks,

Mark

Not with my card, which is an old and slow GT 520 (fan-less) which I
have since years. But it frees up the CPU for other tasks making the
system more responsive. Will have to update some time...

I've ordered the NVIDIA card which should arrive soon. Only $67! I'll let you know how it works out.
