I still read it. I am not a fan of facebook and the facebook NG group moves
so fast the few times I do look at facebook it is moving so fast and hard
to follow anything. I much prefer the groups format. Please keep it open,
thanks for all the effort.

Erik / All:

I’ve been looking for an active community for years. My knowledge growth (apart from simply working) has mostly been from scouring the web and talking to individual photographers. Thanks for noting the Facebook group, I hadn’t heard about it.

Hello,

one or the other might remember, I'm one of the panotoolsNG moderators.

Our lovely and once so active PanotoolsNG group seems almost dead. Although we still have 1900+ members and some requests for approval each week apparently no one dares to ask or write something. Where has all this activity gone? To Panoramic Photographers on Facebook? Or to the PTGui and hugin groups?

However, how shall we proceed? I guess I'm not the only one who still reads the group and is willing to answer. So why not simply revive it? Or shall we close it alltogether? What's your opinion?

Please reply anyone, even if you don't have an opinion. I'd just like to know how many still read...

I still read this list from my mail program.

It's a pity that activity is about zero, but I'd keep it. After all
these years (do you remember the NG split?) I don't have the heart to
say "stop it".

Maybe a lot of activity has moved to social networks but I have no
interest in them (I am rather asocial...).

Erik,

I still read, but am not currently active in creating panoramas
using any software.   :(

Hang in there a little long, hoping for a more active group.

Still subscribed here. I stopped creating panos until fairly recently, I was active some years ago. Purely for pleasure and the technical challenge. I've invested in more up to date kit in the last few months and enjoying the process again.

The 'other forums' do offer some support, eg pano2VR and PTGui, but have their weaknesses. The pro support staff are brilliant, but community wise they are perhaps a little quiet, but not as quiet as here!!!

Would hate to see this forum die as it was so good in the past.

But maybe the technology is passing us bye? With Video 360° and auto video HDR even been talked about the process seems to be getting easier all the time and specialist technical knowledge not needed quite so much?

Cheers,

Keith

I would disagree. For video its even harder with inherent parallax.  Its
the old schoolers that can stitch video without effort. A lot of the video
stitch people have never even stitched high quality still stuff.

Hi Erik,

I still read, but agree that it's not nearly as active as it once was. Part of that may be due to the relative maturity of the group and the tools as well.

Maybe I'm sentimental, (or just mental), but I vote for keeping the group. At some point, we'll have a new wave of technology that will spark a fresh round of conversations. Perhaps VR video will be that.

Thanks for your ongoing diligence as a moderator!

Mark

I think the overwhelming consensus is to just keep things going as they are, and I'm inclined to agree.

PanotoolsNG is a low volume list (really *low* volume sometimes), so it's not a problem to keep getting emails from it. When they come they are relevant, spam is minimal to non-existant (except to the mods address ... sigh).

It looks like all the knowledgable people are still here to answer any questions asked, so there is still value, albeit a hidden one. That being said, it would be great if people could post important industry developments, or personal triumphs ( not just the problems ) every now and then.

Cheers,
KathyW.

Hello,

I read the group!

My opinion is that unless the administration of the group requires a
significant amount of time from you, to leave it running. Maybe it will
resurge in the future, maybe not, but why stop it if it's not much work to
let it be.

If instead it requires some work to keep it running, then it's your call.
Maybe you can add some co-administrators and leave to them the work. I
would gladly help with clerical list administration duties, if needed.

Thank you

I am not shooting pano as much these days, but still very much interested in trying to
keep abreast of new tools, techniques and ideas.
Of course the archive and wiki should live, and I'd enjoy seeing more in this space.
Agree with the many posters who find the social media space not at all conducive to
learning technical information.
Thanks for the efforts, Jim.

Best regards to all!

I still read everything that comes through in Digest mode.

Keep the group, if the moderators remain willing.  It’s a great alternative to the antics and egos of the current IVRPA leadership on their overly censored site and forums!
