Interestingly, I've not done much with immersive 360 panos,
but I have done rather a lot of varied things using tools
originally intended for panoramas (Hugin, mainly).

In particular, I made a hi-res capture (circa 250 DPI) of an 11 by 6 foot map
from 1830, using a cantilever arm tripod, and "mosaic mode".

I've also used Hugin's masking and mosaic mode to photograph a guitar's label
through the strings, and end up with a clean image - no strings!!

I still read the posts, and am actively creating 360’s atm - so I’m happy to see the group continue. I’ll try to think of a question to ask :-)

    Hello,

one or the other might remember, I'm one of the panotoolsNG moderators.

Our lovely and once so active PanotoolsNG group seems almost dead. Although we still have 1900+ members and some requests for approval each week apparently no one dares to ask or write something. Where has all this activity gone? To Panoramic Photographers on Facebook? Or to the PTGui and hugin groups?

However, how shall we proceed? I guess I'm not the only one who still reads the group and is willing to answer. So why not simply revive it? Or shall we close it alltogether? What's your opinion?

Please reply anyone, even if you don't have an opinion. I'd just like to know how many still read...

Hello,

one or the other might remember, I'm one of the panotoolsNG moderators.

I'd just like to know how many still read...

same here.

i'm still reading all list messages.

even as it's not as vivid as th FB group: it has its history (far longer
than FB ;-) ) and if doesn't take too much efforts for administration i
join the majority and vote for keeping it alive.

the current response shows that we've still a lot of members even if the
most of them (including me) are mostly in readlony mode.

indeed its searchability is far superior to FB.

my 2cent...

Dear Erik and ALL the old guys

I must say THANK YOU ALL

I've learned a LOT from this list when I was learning to walk in 360  :-)

This was an incredible adventure for me, a brazilian guy, far away from
everything.
And I made friends here !!!

Keep the list forever as a historic place where lots of great today
shooters were born.

the only strange thing to me, is a lot of people saying that still read
this list
but
This is the first email I got on this list for Years ...  no activity at
all showing up for me
Maybe I did not receive all the emails.

I'm very active on Facebook these days, and also doing 360 videos as well

Anyway THANKS to a lot of you guys

Cheers from Rio

Pretty much that, yes. For me it's the Pano Photographers group on
Facebook for general discussions and chat and the PTGui group for
specific tech stuff. I read the PTGui group through email – I don't
really like regular web-based forums.

Occasionally something comes up on the PTGui group that isn't at all
PTGui related, but most stuff like that I see on Facebook. It's a bit of
a shame the world swung that way as it's a major PITA in Facebook to try
and track down anything more than a few days past.

Still here and expect to remain so for a good while yet.  I haven't figured out quite yet how to make a full 360 degree pano, let alone an immersion one, but a full 360 (horizontal) pano is still on my bucket list, and I still read the PanoToolsNG and PanoTools-List digests.  I much prefer the forum format to the Facebook version.

Hi Erik and group

I used to find this group very useful and the mail digests are extremely easy to scan for subjects and archive locally. However that's not so useful as the subject matter becomes out of date and new topics are not being generated. I joined the Facebook group but it's just not so convenient and would love this group to be active again. Realistically though I don't see how that can happen in the longer term and I guess we're stuck with the Facebook mess.
I use PTGUI every day for high res stills, not full panos but would like to get back to doing pano tours in HTML5.

Being a member since the beginnings, I still read the digests (not always regularly, but try to be up to date). Having not done much with panos in the past, it’s on the plan to do again more in the future.

So I would vote for keeping the list going.

Where has all this activity gone? To Panoramic Photographers on Facebook? Or to the PTGui and hugin groups?
